The Rice: Conference USA Preview

Sam McGuffie filled computer screens everywhere two years ago, with highlight-reel moves that left many a college coach salivating to get him on their campus.

But two years later, it is Rice that will be able to reap the benefits that a player like McGuffie can provide even though the University of Michigan had ended up winning the hotly contested recruiting battle for McGuffie two years back. McGuffie, who is a Conference USA betting favorite, is one of the lone bright spots for a Rice team that finished last season with an abysmal 2-10 record and he was transferred from the University of Michigan to be closer to home.

How McGuffie will be utilized by the new offensive coordinator David Beaty in the Owls' high-tempo offense, will be interesting to see.

During this offseason as Alabama transfer Nick Fanuzzi and Miami transfer Taylor Cook battle it out to crack the starting lineup, Beaty will also get these two new QB transfers to play with. You can always get in on the action with some
sports betting odds stuff at your favorite online sportsbook.

It is highly likely that Rice's offense will be vastly improved over last season, especially in rushing offense (Rice finished 104th in the NCAA rushing offense), along with McGuffie. Bet on football is always available sports betting group.

The MAC Football Conference

Great teams such as Central Michigan and Akron help the MAC football conference to move forward.

A lot of people still downplay the MAC, but clubs like Buffalo are still going to be competitive with or without the likes of Turner Gill is the truth of the matter.

It is still in a rebuilding mode for some of the teams like Ball State after people like quarterback Nate Davis left the program in order to go to the football betting NFL and end up hiring a new head coach as well.

The Akron Zips is also able to claim that after they come off a two and nine season they are still in a rebuilding mode. Some moves have been made by the Zips in order to upgrade their speed in positions like outside linebacker. The firing of J.D. Brookhart as head coach after six seasons. J.D. Brookhart is someone who was beloved in the program, but the Zips knew a change needed to be made.

The fact that currently new coaches have been coming into the MAC, the online football betting conference from schools like Notre Dame in order to get the MAC football conference back on the map is something. On the other hand a new starting quarterback is being looked by the people at Central Michigan and an open competition is being hoped.

Netherlands: Keeps Faith On Offense

Going to the 2010 World Cup Finals, the Netherlands had their eyes well set. In qualifying matches, they won all eight of them.  Though only narrowly winning some qualifying matches, the Netherlands was determined to accomplish their goal.

The Netherland's offense is their greatest weapon.  The frontline is able to score goals and make smart plays.  The Dutch are able to score important goals against tough defenses under pressure.

The football betting team Netherlands defense is definitely their greatest weakness.  During the qualifying matches the defense played fairly well, but has struggled during others.  The goalkeeper, Maarten Stekelenburg, has been criticized for most of the mistakes, which is most likely due to the lack of experience. In order to start winning, the defense really needs to learn how to play well together.

Watch out for Wesley Sneijder, one of the best midfielders in the game.  His ability to move the game forward and his long-range shots are real assets. Robin van Persie, a striker, is always entertaining to watch and is sure to score some points for the Dutch.

In the 2010 World Cup, the Dutch have a definite chance to make it far.  They have the potential to do great things as they are currently ranked 3rd in the world.  Despite this potential, the soccer betting favorite team, Netherlands are not unbeatable.

Both the games against Japan and Denmark should be entertaining. In both of these games the Dutch are favored, but not by very much.  To see if the Netherlands can put some strategies together and move on to the Knock Out stage, watch these two games.

At Siwanoy Country club in Eastchester, NY the first PGA Championship was played in 1916.  $500 and a diamond studded gold medal was received by the winner.  The PGA Championship was started as a match play event and was changed to stroke play in 1958.  Today the winner takes home $1.35 million and is awarded the Wanamaker Trophy.

Portugal: A Serious World Cup Contender

For the past few years Portugal has been working hard and their hard work has been paying off. A 4th place fnish at the World Cup in Germany left Portugal team wanting to come back for more.  The beginning of Portugal's qualifying matches left many worried that they would be eliminated. Portugal secured a spot in the Finals due to their hard work in the second round of the World Cup qualifying matches.

Portugal's back line is their biggest asset. The back line rarely lets anything get by and is very strong.  The next best thing that Portugal has going for them is their midfield. For any of their opposing teams, the defense on the team is pretty well matched.

The Portuguese are not so great at offensive scoring while they are very good at defense, they. The online betting strikers that are capable of scoring goals is really lacking in this team.  The front line ends up depending on their midfielders to score.

Portugal's main chance of scoring a goal is Cristiano Ronaldo.  He is known for being the highest paid player in the sport and plays for the Real Madrid team.  The team lacks stars, but watch out for the center-back Ricardo Carvalho. Without being asked, Carvahollo gets things done. Also watch for the midfielder Raul Meireles.  Meireles can be a great attacker when given the chance and he is also great on defense.

In this round, Portugal is expected to do very well and could be a safe football betting option. Both games against the Ivory Coast and North Korea should be extremely entertaining.  The best game to watch is Portugal versus the powerhouse Brazil. Brazil's main threat in the Group round is Portugal.

Philadelphia 76ers

It has been a pretty disappointing season for the 76ers so far.  It seemed that, to make a good run in the Eastern Conference Philadelphia, 76ers might have the talent and chemistry after making some key changes in the offseason.  They have fallen far short of that goal.

The Philadelphia 76ers are pretty much out of the race with only 20 or so games left in the regular season before the playoffs, and will probably just hope for a good lottery pick come this summer.  23 wins and 40 losses are their current record on the season, and they are third in the Atlantic Division behind the Toronto Raptors. Basketball betting odds are always available.

A bit of a disappointment has just been with the 76ers this season, while there are worse teams in the East.  And then the whole Allen Iverson pickup late into the season, and his fallout a couple weeks ago for personal reasons was there.  If their play wasn't already enough of a headache, Iverson definitely came in and made it worse.

Last week a five game losing streak was finally ended by the Sixers with a win in Toronto, where Thaddeus Young really stepped up and the team was led by him. So if nothing else the Sixers can work on getting Young back to top form over these next few weeks as he has been in a funk lately.  Not only that, they need to have some discussions with some of their other key players like Elton Brand and Andre Iguodala, and get some chemistry back into the team. Snow Boarding Is Such a Great Sport

A great sport played by people of all ages is snowboarding. Some follow the sport as a passion, while children love playing the sport due to its related excitement and fun. The sport is truly exciting especially for people who love speed and sliding from the high snow covered mountains. However, there have been some controversies encircling the snowboarding history. Snow boarding betting odds are always available.

As there have been many people who claim to have invented the sport, it's really difficult navigating back to the history of the sport. A few people who had claimed to have invented the sport are here:

  • Tom Sims is the first person known to have discovered the sport. Some time near in 1963 the sport had been invented and had made his first snowboard using plywood. Sims crafted his snowboard in the shop class and eventually named it as Ski board when he was in his 8th grade.

  • Sherman Poppen is another person known to have discovered snowboarding. It was about 1965 when the first snowboard was designed by Poppen. He called it as snurfer and crafted the board by bolting together two skis. He also attached a rope to help the rider maintain his balance when surfing the snow.

  • Jake Burton Carpenter is the next person from the snowboarding history to have discovered the sport. Snowboards were started designing by Burton in 1979 using fiberglass and ropes were also added to maintain a balance when sliding on the snow. The primary design was later advanced by making use of steel edges at the sides.

They went on to win three pre-tournament era championships in 1912, 1914, and 1916.  Since then they have won an NCAA National Championship in 1941 under coach, and former Badger, Bud Foster.  Gene England, and John Kotz (who was the tournament MVP) were included in his team.  Washington State for the championship was played by them and the game was won by 39-34.  What is even more significant is that it was their first invitation to the NCAA tournament that year, and they ended up winning their conference championship as well as the national championship.

Other than the national championship, it was made by the Badgers to the Final Four twice, once in 1941 and the other in 2000.  The Elite Eight was reached by them two times, and the Sweet Sixteen four times.  Some notable players that have made it the NBA from the Badgers are Michael Finley of the San Antonio Spurs, Devin Harris of the New Jersey Nets, Alando Tucker of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Marcus Landry who plays for the New York Knicks.
